There are different mobiles and computers operating systems like different models of computers and mobiles. Android is one of the operating systems using by the smart phones. Android is not simply an operating system rather hardware and programming languages are also use this Android Technology.

Android was invented by an anonymous company but later on Google has taken its copyrights reserved and is now doing further development in this technology. It is Linux based technology that uses UNIX as an operating system. Linux is the most recent technology in the field of communication and computing. It is therefore Android is demanded by most of the users to have it their operating system.  However it is also a fact that Google is offering an open choice for the users to modify and add any new application without even bring on the notice of Google. Anyone can upload a new application on the Android platform as App Store to either free or payable. These application uploads by the users can be easily download by the users and enjoy more features like additional games, interactive media and business plan.

Android is unique because Google is actively developing the platform but giving it away for free to hardware manufacturers and phone carriers who want to use Android on their devices.

Beyond the Phone:

A modified version of Android is used in the Google TV, the Barnes & Noble Nook eReader, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and countless other devices. Parrot makes both a digital photo frame and a car stereo system powered by modified versions of Android.

Open Handset Alliance:

Google formed a group of hardware, software, and telecommunication companies called the Open Handset Alliance with the goal of contributing to Android development. Most members also have the goal of making money from Android, either by selling phones, phone service, or mobile applications.

Android Market:

Anyone can download the SDK (software development kit) and write applications for Android phones. Google doesn't screen developers or applications.

These apps can be downloaded from the Android Market. If the app costs money, you pay for it using Google Checkout. T-Mobile also has an agreement to allow their phone customers to purchase some apps and have the fee added to their monthly phone bill.

Android Applications:

Although Android technology is increasingly being used on a range of devices; the most common hardware to use this platform is mobile phones. A large community of developers regularly writes applications (apps), including games, social networking, and business modules, for Android smart phones. There are a wide range of free Android apps, including games and productivity titles, and paid apps are even more common.

Programming for Android:

Android technology is based on Java software applications. This technology requires the use of a special software development kit (SDK) to create applications for an Android device. The SDK is freely available for download from the Internet. For this reason, and because it will work on multiple operating systems, many software developers prefer Android technology over that used in other smart phones.

Smart phones have evolved into devices that use touch screens for navigation. Android technology provides specific application programming interface (API) modules to developers that take advantage of this. The touch screen enables the user to select and scroll through information with the stroke of a finger.

How Android Is Different?

One of the key differences between Android technology and other smart phone systems is that it is open for modification. This gives vendors the opportunity to change and enhance their products based on their own preferences. This has created many versions of Android phones, which can vary by vendor, as well as a range of other devices that use this platform. In 2011, Google introduced a new arena for Android when it announced plans to launch Android@Home, a network that could allow users to automate and control home appliances.
