iPhone 14 Emergency SOS via satellite feature expands to Europe
- For the first two years, the iPhone 14 SOS Emergency is free.
- Last month, Emergency SOS by Satellite was made available in the US and Canada.
Along with the iPhone 14 series, Apple's satellite-based SOS emergency service was announced in September of this year. The Cupertino behemoth revealed Apple Tuesday that other locations would soon receive the new feature.
Users of the iPhone 14 series in the UK, France, Germany, and Ireland can now text emergency services when there is no cellular network accessible. In the US and Canada, emergency SOS via satellite is already available. The first two years of the service are cost-free.
The iPhone manufacturer stated on Tuesday that owners of the iPhone 14 series in the UK, France, Germany, and Ireland will now have access to Emergency SOS via satellite. Users are now able to send emergency texts even when they are not within cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.
Through the Find My app on their iPhones, users may now share their location via satellite. According to Apple, models of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 16.1 and newer versions are eligible for the Emergency SOS via Satellite capability.
With Apple's satellite service, a user can access assistance using a satellite link if they are unable to contact emergency services owing to a lack of cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity on their iPhone. In order to ensure that dispatchers can comprehend a user's position and location, a brief questionnaire will be displayed to assist the user in providing important information.
The user will then be guided by the user-friendly interface to connect and send messages. The user's survey results, such as location, altitude, battery life, and medical ID, if enabled, are included in this message. Direct satellite transmissions are used to deliver the survey and any subsequent communications to relay centres staffed with technicians who can make assistance calls on the user's behalf. Additionally, the user's emergency contacts may be given access to it.
Users of the iPhone 14 can use satellite connectivity to communicate their current location in the Find My app. Satellite connections are also compatible with other security features on Apple products, such as Crash Detection and Fall Detection.
