An AI-Powered Job Search Tool, Google for Jobs Launched: Google I/O 2017


Google will host job listings from third-party sources for job seekers, initially it is to be limited to US.


The tech giant, Google has announced its all-new Google for Job initiative which will provide easy searching for job seekers to find a job straight from the Search. Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO kicked off I/O 2017 conference with a keynote address stressing on the company's new focus - AI (artificial intelligence). Pichai announced the Google for Jobs project is developed with the aim to help users find the relevant jobs using machine learning capabilities, under this umbrella.


In the coming weeks, the company will launch a new feature in Search that will help American job seekers to find jobs, as currently this feature will be available only for the US. Talking about the company's new Google for Jobs initiative Pichai told, why the company felt the need for Google Jobs as nearly half of US employers were having issues filling open positions while job seekers weren't even aware about a job opening.

"We are now witnessing a new shift in computing: the move from a mobile-first to an AI-first world. And as before, it is forcing us to reimagine our products for a world that allows a more natural, seamless way of interacting with technology," wrote Pichai in a blog post. Initially, the latest Jobs search feature will be limited to the US market only.

At the starting level, Google for its new project will partner with job listing sites like Career builder, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Monster, and Facebook among others. The company will further add more options such as filtering job vacancies based on locality, group, posting date, full-time or part-time employment, and many more.

The company particularly assumes that the new search tool will make searching for jobs that were harder to search for and classify using the older methods, including service and retail jobs. Pichai also announced that some companies have been piloting the new Google for Job search tool like FedEx and Johnson & Johnson.

The company didn’t have a clear vision on how the new project relates to its recent unveiling of the tool for managing job applicants, Google Hire.

Pichai also noted about how Google Search but now has advanced in deep learning helping in many more things that wasn’t possible before. It has evolved as a search engine tool which was originally built to understand text in webpage.

Pichai also introduced a tool dubbed “Google.ai” which will help researchers identify genetic variants quicker. A dedicated website, google.ai, has also been launched, which will be a center point for AI based tools and all other research related tools.
