WHY IN NEWS ?
On Christmas Day, the James Webb Space Telescope was launched. When the James Webb Space Telescope is in space, it can only be unfolded. Hubble will be succeeded by the James Webb Space Telescope.
NASA engineers have been hard at work deploying critical equipment and tools onto the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), including its sunshield and secondary mirror, over the last week. The primary camera of the $10 billion (approximately Rs. 74,340 crores) space observatory, which will study the creation of the Universe and exoplanets, will be launched on Saturday, January 8. The major deployments of the most powerful telescope ever launched into space will come to an end with this. JWST will begin planning for complex operations after completing the extraordinary process of unfolding in space.
JWST is a NASA, European Space Agency, and Canadian Space Agency collaboration project. It was launched on an Ariane 5 rocket on December 25. After being sent into orbit, the telescope gradually began to unfold and is now nearing completion. The process is human-controlled, giving the team the ability to pause and change as needed. This can sometimes result in changes to deployment plans.
NASA has announced that the last hours of JWST's key deployments will be broadcast live. Today's live coverage will be begun at 7:30 p.m. IST.
Nasa tweet :
The live broadcast will end around 12 a.m. (midnight) in India, after which NASA will hold a press conference. The program as well as the media briefing will be streamed live on the agency's website.
The major deployments of James Webb will be completed, but it will take some time for it to become completely operational and replace the Hubble telescope. JWST will investigate every phase of cosmic history once it is completed. It will assist us in comprehending the universe's beginnings and our place within it.
