Some people think that blogging is easy and simple; that everyone who can print quickly enough, has a computer and the Internet in his arsenal myadpcard, has surfing skills on the Internet and can make sentences from words, each of these people can write good texts regularly. However, this is far from the case, because simply writing a text is not enough, the text should be of high quality, and not only in terms of content.
Often, being limited by the narrow deadline, people donate raw, unreadable texts, which even did not stand alongside with such phenomena as “editing” and “proofreading”. Here are some of our tips for improving your writing skills.
#1. Remove all distracting sources.
If you think that you can work in multitasking mode, then you are mistaken. It’s impossible to chat with colleagues, view pages on social networks, listen to music and write quality text at the same time. When you sit down to write something, then eliminate everything that can distract from the priority task. Put on the headphones to avoid listening to noises, turn off the messengers, turn on the answering machine on the phone. Surrounding wait and the quality of your text will improve, and will not require time-consuming editing.
#2. Define content format
Some such talented authors can write large text without first developing the topic and drawing up a work plan. But they are quite small. For less talented writers, this way of working is not suitable. Therefore, before starting work, try to imagine what the final result of your work will look like, decide on the structure of the text and the form of the presentation of the material.
#3. Add editing and proofreading to the workflow.
Editing and proofreading is part of your work. But in the process of writing, the eyes are “washed out”, errors and typos are not visible, and your internal rhythm may seem distracted to the reader too complex. Connect other people to help you. This can be your colleagues in the pen (arrange mutual assistance), your employer (web-studio, which has a final customer) or even relatives and friends (subject to their sufficient competence).
#4. Consider your mistakes.
Most people in the letter make the same mistakes. They are all different. Surely, you have these too. Make a list of them and remember it all the time while working on the text.
#5. Create an editing checklist
One of the ways to edit text is to create a checklist in which everything is written, what you need to pay attention to and what needs to be done first. “Forgive cumbersome wording” or “use more scientific vocabulary” as a constant reminder - and at the output, you will get exactly what will surely satisfy the customer or reader without any modifications.
#6. Use editing tools
If you are one of those who create tons of content constantly and in the shortest possible time, then it makes sense to invest in the acquisition of text editing tools. Also, many of these tools are freely available on the Internet.
#7. Read aloud
When reading the text, say it out loud. Better yet, repeat the passages of the text with your voice before typing it, or, in case of high-speed dialing, right at the time of writing. So you will quickly notice the clumsiness of the wording and save yourself from having to redo something during proofreading or after putting the material.
#8. Take a break and return to the text later.
Do not rush to read the text immediately after it is written. Drink a cup of tea, go for a short walk and only then do some editing. If time allows, then generally postpone this activity to the next day. In the morning, the work will be somewhat forgotten, and you will start reading a text that you do not know, which means that all the flaws and roughness will become more noticeable.
#9. Change font and size
Advice is a continuation of the previous one. The main reason for which we do not notice errors when reading our text is that we remember it too well, which means that we do not read the text itself, but the memory of it. If there is no break time, increase the font type or size. This will create some discomfort and make you more attentive.
#10. Chat with your admired colleagues.
To improve the quality of your texts, you need to have a benchmark, a source for imitation and inspiration. Read other bloggers, contact them, ask questions and learn from examples. Nothing makes us smarter, more educated and more skillful than quality reading and constant practice.
