5 Benefits of Doing a Phone Detox

Pearl Smith937 16-Oct-2020

Not long ago, things happened at a different pace, life was different; mails took days to arrive, trips could take weeks, and communicating with someone can’t be done on the same day. Back then, people are used to waiting, and they had the time to think, reflect, and connect with themselves.

Nowadays, people are mostly on social networks and the internet which results in depression in some people. Despite this, many people find the idea of unplugging from their digital devices ridiculous. People fear missing out on something important that they consider their digital devices as something more important than their health.

There are many things we can do about this and phone detox is just one of them. Phone detox is to pause and disconnect from your phone and reconnect with your values and goals. It is a space dedicated to your wellbeing.

Ideally, a phone detox should last a full weekend but for beginners, you should start by turning off all your phone’s notifications and gradually move on to spend a few hours without using your phone entirely and increasing the frequency of you doing this.

5 BENEFITS OF DOING A PHONE DETOX

  • Strengthen your ability to focus

Our phone is one of the biggest distractions in our lives. Most people don’t have the willpower to stop checking it once in a while and this prevents them from doing the more important things in their lives.

Don’t believe in the concept of multitasking because jumping from one task to another will only decrease your ability to concentrate. Turn off the devices that you’re not using and focus on a single task.

  • It helps break bad habits

Doing a phone detox will help you avoid bad habits. Most of our habits are related to the things around us and if we don’t have our phone in our hands, we are more likely to develop healthy habits.

  • It gives you time to exercise

Every minute that you spend browsing the internet is equivalent to the time you miss in making your life better. With more time in your hands, why not use it to exercise? When we stay active, we reap the benefits of good health.

  • Improve the quality of your sleep

The blue light emitted by digital screens interferes with our sleep and rest. That harmless-looking blue light is a type of high-energy light that is meant to mimic sunlight and keep us awake longer.

  • Start with the resources you have and improve along the way

It would be a lie to say that we don’t and never experience stress at work but we add more to it by constantly using our phones. The goal should be for us to not add unnecessary stress to our lives by reducing the amount of time that we spend in front of our phones.
