The Effects of Technology on Humans: Social Media

HARIDHA P611 22-Nov-2022

One would assume that with the spread of technologies that can transcend the limitations of time and space (such as air planes, automobiles, and the Internet), these tools would be used to understand other cultures, meet people from all over the world, uphold and strengthen familial ties, communicate effectively with others, and assist people in becoming more socially adept.

Nevertheless, certain technology advancements make people preoccupied, overly agitated, and more alone. Through technology, a lot of people are connected to a lot of relationships, yet often the sheer amount of these connections can make people feel qualitatively empty. It is clear that technology has significantly changed what it means to be social.

It will be crucial to rethink what constitutes socially desirable and acceptable behavior as society is possibly on the verge of a social revolution (with regard to digital or virtual interaction). At this point in history, relatively few individuals have critically considered the implications of the new social realities brought about by technology for both the individual and society.

Social networking site usage has both advantages and disadvantages. It is incredible how a social networking site may help people reconnect with long-lost friends. It is convenient to stay in touch via technology in a world where individuals have become fairly mobile and family and friends are frequently separated by distance.

However, issues related to social networking sites can be found easily. Whether or not Internet addictions are real is the subject of a heated dispute. To me, it seems like a genuine issue that individuals deal with (perception frequently reflects reality in a social environment). Some claim that these websites helped people cheat on their partners, which frequently results in divorce.

Social media has a significant impact on hiring and recruitment. Anyone trying to make a name for themselves in their field should use professional social networks like LinkedIn. They enable the development and promotion of personal brands.

19% of recruiting managers base their hiring choices on information obtained from social media. 70 percent of companies use social networking sites to study potential employees, according to CareerBuilder's 2018 social media recruitment survey.

Conclusion

Information, it has been said, is a powerful thing. People cannot use the power of information if it cannot be shared. Social media has a favorable effect on how knowledge is shared in the modern world. Through the use of platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and others, information is now easily accessible.

According to parse.ly's research, a story's life expectancy when it is put online is 2.6 days, however it is 3.2 days when it is shared on social media. Given that billions of people use the internet every day, that difference of 23% is considerable.
