Siem Reap, Cambodia
Siem Reap is one of the most historic cities in the world and is home to the world-famous Angkor Wat. It’s best to see this temple at sunrise for an amazing view, and you can even get a hot air balloon ride and see all the temples and ruins in the area from above. Siem Reap is also filled with great restaurants and bars, perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing.
Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok is probably one of the most well-known cities in Asia. It’s the cultural capital of Thailand and is bursting with unique sights and experiences. Bangkok street food is a food-lover’s dream, and there’s a range of brilliant temples to explore. Dine at a rooftop bar overlooking the city, experience a floating market, or even watch a Thai boxing show. Just be careful when you try and get around – according to The Secret Traveller, Thailand has the highest rate of car and motorcycle accidents in the world.
Jaipur, India
Jaipur is the bright and wonderful “pink city of India.” It’s a cultural delight and bursting with amazing things to do and see, such as Amer Fort, which is possibly the most popular attraction in Jaipur. It offers a brilliant insight into India and provides wonderful views.
Other great sights include the Palace of the Winds and the Jal Mahal, which floats on the water. Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka
Anuradhapura is the old capital of Sri Lanka and it’s bursting with a unique history and cultural sights. It’s home to well-preserved ruins of an ancient Sri Lankan civilization, which have made UNESCO World Heritage Site status. There’s a sprawling complex of architectural and archaeological wonders, including Mihintale, which is thought to be the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo definitely makes the list of the most exciting cities in Asia. It’s the buzzing capital of Japan and has the best mix of traditional and ultra-modern life and buildings. The city is well-known for its polite people, fantastic skyscrapers, delicious cuisine, and wonderful museums. It’s probably the only place in the world where you can dine in a Michelin-starred restaurant for less than $10! For a fascinating people-watching experience, head to the district of Harajuku.
Da Lat, Vietnam
Known as the City of the Eternal Spring thanks to its cooler climate in the highlands of Vietnam, Da Lat is filled with wonderful waterfalls to explore, including Datanla falls and elephants falls. You can even go tobogganing down a mountain, which is perfect for thrill seekers!
Da Lat is also home to the major winemaking region of Vietnam, which means you’ll have access to delicious Vietnamese wine as well as excellent local cuisine.
