Indian Startups Revolutionizing the Space Industry: A New Frontier Emerges

One of the top 5 space-faring nations in the world, India offers a variety of space prospects. India is recognized for making launch vehicles and satellites that are reasonably priced. The global space economy is reportedly worth US$ 440 billion. India's space industry accounts for only 2.1% of the world's space economy despite having the most advanced space program in the world. In order to encourage, support, regulate, and give start-ups and private firms the chance to engage in space activities in order to increase their market share globally, the Indian government has begun reforms in the space sector. India ranked fifth globally as of May 2021 with a total of 368 space tech enterprises.

Launch Support

They are in charge of blasting out rockets and spacecraft that investigate the planet and the cosmos. By launching satellites for 26 different countries between 2014 and 2019, India's ISRO alone generated US$ 167.5 million, making it the world leader in third-party launch services. Private space companies are emerging and working to establish India as a launchpad for small satellites. Starting businesses and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly focusing on the launch segment as they have gained significant expertise in orbit management for LEO, MEO, and GEO satellite launches. In addition, new technology advancements like semi-cryogenic engines, reusable launchers, two-stage-to-orbit (TSTO) rocket launchers, and others are encouraging industry to diversify into new space prospects.

Satellite Production

84% of the satellites built worldwide in 2020 were used for corporate communications. ISRO has been serving this market in India, but the rising demand for small satellites presents enormous prospects for many private businesses. Additionally, by utilizing pooled resources and facilities, the space parks will provide start-ups and SMEs with economies of scale.

Floor Segment

Satellite communication (SATCOM) is another name for it. It alludes to communication systems that use orbiting satellites to send signals from one place to another. Satellite ground equipment, which includes consumer and network equipment (gateways and VSATs) (Sat TV, radio, internet equipment, navigation), makes up the majority of the space economy. A satellite communications system that manages satellites and the up- and down-linking of data from satellites is made up of network operations centers and earth stations.

Services through satellite

Due to the increasing demand for higher bandwidth, lower latency, novel services powered by LEO satellites, and new business models, this sector is currently seeing a surge in activity. The proliferation of small satellites, which has given the satellite industry additional revenue streams, is to blame for this increase. The consumer services sector, fixed satellite services, mobile satellite services, remote sensing services, position, velocity, and timing (PVT) services, among other industries, are all impacted by satellite communication in India. Skylo Technologies, Blue Sky Analytics, Kawa Space, and many other companies are examples of the private actors in this sector.
