iOS Vs Android: 10 Key Features

To compare and contrast iOS with Android, it is pertinent for everyone to have a basic idea of the two mobile operating systems available in the market. This is simply because each platform holds privileges that interest a given category of users. Below is a breakdown of ten areas that you ought to focus on when looking at operating systems in other to make the right choice.

1. Customization

Android: Android’s most obvious advantage is its high level of customization. Users can customize their home screens, shift default system apps, and use third-party launchers to change the complete interface. This way, the consumer experience is more unique, allowing for catered services. However, it can also pose a disappointment when different interfaces are provided on different devices.

iOS: However iOS gives more or less a consistent look and feel to the users. Apple for instance controls all aspects of its hardware and software making its products more or less uniform. This may be viewed as a limitation by some people given that the Interface is not tailored but this particular approach makes all the iOS devices have one common stable touch on the interface.

2. App Availability and Quality

Android: Since it has a more liberal development environment Android’s Google Play Store contains millions of apps, which gives the consumers more variety. However, this openness leads to the development of lower-quality applications or some security threats due to less strict procedures of scrutiny.

iOS: Unlike Google Play which has a larger number of apps, Apple’s App Store has a rigorous review policy for the Apps that are allowed for sale. This makes sure that most of the apps present in the App Store contain less threat and meet high-quality parameters. As much as the curated selection might reduce the number of apps, it can only offer apps that have gone through a rigorous process and therefore assure the users of an added level of professionalism and security.

3. Security and Privacy

iOS: The subject of privacy and security is rather important for Apple. Some of the aspects that can prove that iOS is a secure operating system are; App Tracking Transparency which makes all the applications that need to track data to get permission from the user and security updates.

Android: It is however paramount to note that Android has developed to be quite complex with regard to security as compared to other mobile operating systems, Android is an open source operating system, and thus there are high probabilities of virus and other malware attacks in Android as compared to the other systems. However, there is no room for complacency in Google and it releases updates for Android often and also provides Google Play Protect service that scans app for malware.

4. Hardware Options

Android: One of the strongest features of Android is the abundant choice of hardware platforms. Currently, there are many manufacturers of devices running Android, and there is a great availability of products with different designs and features, and costs. This means that users can easily pick the kind of device that they need in the market and according to their financial situation, whether they need a phone for emergency calls or a very high-end smartphone.

iOS: Apple is the sole producer of iPhones which reduces the differences in hardware across iPhone models while increasing compatibility between iPhone’s hardware and software. This leads to a better and more efficient operation for the user but the user has fewer options in product features and costs.

5. Ecosystem Integration

iOS: The Apple ecosystem has been considered to be one of the most well-integrated ecosystems currently in the market. Handoff enables customers to transfer a currently-being-used app from their Mac to their iOS device and vice versa, AirDrop makes it easy for a user to share files and documents between Apple devices and Continuity takes it a notch higher by allowing for receiving and responding to a phone call or composing an email using an iOS device while working on a Mac.

Android: Alas, Android has no such strict integration as the one in Apple’s ecosystem but it provides good compatibility with different gadgets and services, and if to speak about Google only. This makes it a fitting option for users who work with Google services or even manufacturers’ devices.

6. Updates and Support

iOS: Apple offers updates to its devices itself to minimize the time of software delivery to its consumers and make sure they are protected against potential threats as well as provided with new useful options and functions. In many cases, Apple employs this direct update process and this is a significant strength of the iOS platform especially for a user whose security will always be a concern.

Android: Update on Android is linked with device manufacturers and carriers, and for this reason, many Android users experience slow or scarce updates. Nevertheless, the Pixel series of Google phones get updates on a regular basis which demonstrates what can be achieved with direct updates.

7. User Interface

iOS: IOS has a simple and user-friendly operating system, which is preferred by users who seek an easy-to-use smartphone.

Android: Android has skin that can be a little different depending on the manufacturer but usually, it is loaded with much more flexibility. On the one hand, it offers more control at the price of repeatability, when the plane of facility control is changed it can be to the benefit or detriment of the process.

8. Voice Assistants

iOS: The application, Siri, particularly fits well with iOS and the rest of the Apple products as it functions as a voice-activated assistant and functional controller within the gadget.

Android: Google Assistant is considered to be one of the most sophisticated AI-driven virtual aids that are capable of performing a huge range of functions and ones that are interconnected with Google services and smart houses.

9. Performance and Optimization

iOS: iOS has traditionally been optimized for performance and it is very tightly coupled with specific Apple’s hardware. The software can enhance even the older devices’ functionality and increase the time they will remain relevant.

Android: High-end Android devices guarantee performance, but because there are a lot of varieties between the devices’ and versions’ hardware and software the performance is not always optimal particularly if the device is low-end.

10. Resale Value

iOS: As a rule, iPhones retain their value better than Android ones. This is mainly because Apple enjoys high standards in its manufacturing the devices are long-lasting for users who tend to change often.

Android: Though there are Android smart phones that can hold a fairly high resale value; especially the modern high-end ones, the majority of them devalue rather quickly due to the high velocity of new releases and the extensive range of devices.

Conclusion

Ultimately, it is up to each user to decide whether he/she would rather stick to the iOS and its devices or prefer the Android and its multitude of gadgets. Android provides a competitive, diverse, and customizable platform for individual users who wish to have choice and manage it by themselves. In contrast, iOS is a more consistent secure, and integrated system that is well-received by users who regard simplicity and privacy as the highest priorities.

Indeed, it can be said that both, iOS and Android platforms have their pros and cons, however, both platforms can offer a premium smartphone experience. Think about what you will be using the platform for most and decide which of the two has the features you need most.
