How decorative posters can uplift the spirit of your space

Posters are a very simple, creative and inexpensive way to decorate your home if you can’t or are not willing to spend money on expensive artwork.

Whereas it is true that posters are great for creating a casual, relaxing atmosphere, and can be used to add a fun touch to your space, let’s be honest, do it the wrong way and your space will end up looking like a college dorm room with a random selection of posters tacked up on the wall… But, don’t worry, this article will give you some tips about hanging your posters like an adult and some basic rules to avoid the undesired teenage effect.

First of all, if you want to take your posters to a whole new level you need to frame them. You can frame an oversize poster and hang it as a focal point on a narrow wall, or use a poster rail for some added flair. But remember, large, oversized pictures, require lots of neutral space and do not like furniture or other artworks surrounding them.

One of the biggest trends in home decoration today consists on creating a poster gallery by grouping several posters for a more sophisticated effect. Combine same size posters or mix A0, A1, A2, A3 and A4 size posters symmetrically or asymmetrically. Whichever the case, when posters are united in one gallery, it is always good to use the same frames because it creates a feeling of continuity and flow.

If you want to add dynamics and energy to your room, opt for an asymmetric arrangement by gathering posters of different sizes. But remember, to ensure that the composition is in harmony, choose one general storyline and keep the distances between posters at 7-10 cm.

If, on the contrary, you prefer a more traditional look, combine posters of the same theme and size. For example, to create a feeling of harmony take 3 posters in A0 printing and hang them in a row above a sofa or dining table.

However, you don’t always have to hang your posters. A very original idea is to prop them up against a wall instead or place them in a layered arrangement on a console or chest of drawers. But if you are looking for the ultimate trend, use them as a bookend for dual-purpose decoration.

Also, if the pictures are large enough, they can be put directly on the floor, or alternatively, install a shelf along the wall and use it to display them together with various decorative objects.

Posters are also great for creating a theme in a large room. For example, you can opt for a sports, music, or film theme, or cover the wall with a selection of vintage posters. You can also create a special niche with lightning that draws additional attention to the display.

Posters are also a very good resource to conceal the flaws of your space. For example, to increase the height of the ceiling, place your images vertically. Placing your posters in the horizontal position will visually increase the length of the wall.

Another good strategy to uplift your space is to colour coordinate your posters with other items in your home. For instance, if there is a predominant colour pattern in your poster gallery, use the same colour for your lamp shade or sofa cushions.
