Why is my Blood Sugar High in the Morning?

High blood sugar early in the morning? This is called the Dawn phenomenon or the Dawn effect. Why

usually occurs between 2 am and 8 am.

 How does it work?

In general, the normal hormonal changes that the body makes in the morning, diabetic or not, raise blood sugar. Otherwise, your body will produce more insulin to make up for it. You don't even realize it exists.

But if you have diabetes, the situation is different. Like most people, your body doesn't respond to insulin, so your fasting blood sugar levels can rise even if you're on a tough diet.

Sugar Rush is your body's way of making sure you have enough energy to get up and start your day. If you have diabetes, your body may not have enough insulin to counteract these hormones. This upsets the fine balance you've worked so hard to maintain, and your morning sugar levels may be too high.

The effects of the dawn phenomenon vary from person to person and even from day to day.

Some researchers believe that the spontaneous release of so-called reverse regulatory hormones such as growth hormone, cortisol, glucagon, and epinephrine improves insulin resistance overnight. This raises your blood sugar level.

Morning blood sugar levels can also be high for the following reasons:

I didn't have enough insulin the night before. I used too much or too little medicine. You ate the wrong treat before bed.

What can you do?

If you are affected by the dawn phenomenon, try:

Have dinner early in the evening. Do active things like going for a walk after dinner. Ask your doctor about the medicines you take. We will hold a festival sometime. It helps bring your blood sugar back to normal and tells your body it's time to suppress the anti-insulin hormones. Eat snacks containing carbohydrates and protein before going to bed. Sugary drinks such as sodas, fruit drinks, fruit drinks, and sweet teas should also be avoided. A single intake can raise your blood sugar and in some cases give you hundreds of extra calories.

If you have diabetes, your blood sugar level may be high in the morning. It may not be too alarming. If it happens several mornings in a row, check once a night (about 2 or 3 am) for several nights. Then give these numbers to your doctor. You can find out if you have the dawn phenomenon or if something else is causing these high morning numbers.
