Diagnosis of Psychosis Disorder

To diagnose a psychotic disorder, your doctor may review your medical and psychiatric history and perform a brief physical exam. A person may have blood tests and sometimes a brain scan (such as an MRI scan) to rule out a physical illness or the use of drugs such as cocaine or LSD. If your doctor can't find a physical cause for your symptoms, he may refer you to a psychiatrist or psychologist. This mental health professional uses specially designed interviewing and assessment tools to determine if a person has a psychotic condition.

Treatments of Psychosis Disorder

Most psychotic disorders are treated with a combination of medication and psychotherapy, which is a form of counseling.

Drugs: The main type of drug that doctors prescribe to treat psychotic disorders is 'antipsychotics'. Although these drugs are not cures, they are effective in managing the most problematic symptoms of psychotic disorders, such as delusions, hallucinations, and thinking problems. Old antipsychotics include:

  • Cloproma Jean (Torrez)
  • Fluphenazine (Proviron)
  • Haloposhidol (Haldol)
  • Loxapine (Loxitane)
  • Perfenazine (Wilson)
  • Tiidazin (malaria)
  • 'Atip Antippyshotics' new:
  • Aripis Zol (take care)
  • Anaapin (Saphris)
  • Brexpiprazole (Rexulti)
  • Cartier (Vraylar)
  • Closapin (Close Teel)
  • Ferroon (photo)
  • Lurasidon (Lizon)
  • Olanzapine (Zyprexa)
  • Olanzapina / Samidorfa (Lybalvi)
  • Paliperidone (Invega)
  • Paliperidon palm (Sustenna, Inviga Trinza)
  • Questia (Seroquel)
  • Risepal
  • Ziprasidone (Geodon)

The doctor first allocates the first meeting. Some drugs may use injections and take one or two or three months a month. This can be easier than remembering to take a pill every day.

Psychotherapy: There are several types of counseling that can help people with mental illness, including individual, group, and family therapy. Most people with mental disorders receive treatment on an outpatient basis, meaning they do not live in institutions. But sometimes people need to be admitted to the hospital, for example, if they have severe symptoms, are at risk of harming themselves or others, or are unable to care for themselves because of an illness.

Recovery: Each person being treated for a psychotic disorder may respond differently to a treatment. Some will be improved soon. For others, it may take weeks or months for symptoms to go away.

Some people may need to continue treatment for a longer period. Some patients, such as those with multiple severe episodes, may need to take the drug indefinitely. In these cases, the drug is usually given in the lowest possible dose to minimize side effects.

What is the future of people with mental disorders?

It depends on the type of psychotic disorder and who has it. However, these conditions are treatable and most people recover well with treatment and careful monitoring.

Can psychotic disorders be prevented?

Not. But the earlier the treatment starts, the better. This helps prevent symptoms. Look for help as soon as possible and help human life, family, and relationship.

People at high risk of psychosis, such as with the family history of schizophrenia, such as marijuana and alcohol, help prevent or postpone these disorders.
