What is steam inhalation?
Steam inhalation is a tool used to open nasal passages and provide immediate relief from cold, cough, and sinus symptoms. Hot water inhalation is also called steam therapy, which begins with steam inhalation. When you start breathing in warm, moist air, the mucus in your nasal passages is released and the same chain reaction starts in your throat and lungs. This therapy also treats inflammation and swollen blood vessels in the nasal passages.
It is important to note that although steam inhalation or steam therapy can help relieve colds and coughs, it cannot cure infections, especially COVID-19. This is a home remedy and you will feel better after dealing with this condition, but it is not a cure for a serious illness.
What are the benefits of steam inhalation?
Steam inhalation consists of repeatedly inhaling and exhaling moist, warm steam from a pan of hot water. This will help relieve irritation in the nasal passages and help thin the congested and thick mucus in the respiratory sinuses. This will give you relief and help you breathe normally for at least a few minutes.
Steam inhalation or steam therapy provides temporary relief from colds, sinusitis, bronchitis, nasal allergies, infections, and flu symptoms. Steam can subjectively relieve colds and other respiratory infections and will not treat other serious conditions unless you take the right medication.
How to breathe steam?
To inhale the steam, you will first need the following ingredients:
- large pot or bowl
- the water
- Gas, stove, or microwave to heat water to boiling
- dry towel
- Boil the water to start the steam inhalation process. Then carefully transfer the water to another container. Cover your head with a dry towel, keep a safe distance of at least 20-30 cm and lean slightly towards the hot water. Be very careful and avoid direct contact with water. Breathe in slowly and deeply through your nose and hold for 5 to 10 minutes. Do not consume liquids for more than 10-15 minutes per session.
