What are the Uses of Otoscope?

What is this otoscope?

An otoscope is a hand-held device with a light and a magnifying glass that allows doctors to see better inside the ear. During an examination, called an oscilloscope, there is a funnel-shaped viewing portion with a tip that goes into the ear canal.

A pneumatic otoscope is a special type of otoscope that has a rubber bulb that releases odors from the ear canal when compressed. Air in the ear canal allows medical professionals to monitor the movement of the eardrum.

More recently, some health care providers have used video otoscopes that can transmit images to a screen larger than the ear.

The role of the otoscope during an ear examination

The otoscope is the main instrument used to examine the ear. It is commonly used by primary care providers, audiologists, and otolaryngologists (also called ear, nose, and throat or ENT doctors).

During the ear examination, adults usually sit upright and young children lie with their heads turned to one side. Use the Guardian's hand, the second-hand pulls the rear channel, and the other is to listen again with the headphones and attract it again.

  • Inspector assistant during inspection: 2
  • Ear white or shining gray
  • Light movement when air sections are used
  • Small and remarkable bones
  • In a small amount
  • The headphones can have headphones in Exstineer. 2 I can warn.
  • Reservation, swollen or delicate channel
  • Red or matte
  • Pain that is drawn or affected by external ears
  • Do not move on headphones when air sections are used
  • Ishi scopes do not usually have pain but can cause discomfort even if the ear is infected. Suppliers usually stop the test when the pain worsens.

The scope cannot identify all the problems of all ears, so if the supplier thinks about serious problems, you can provide additional ears or hearing tests. There is a risk of using one patient's otoscope to spread bacteria to another. Regular cleaning of the otoscope head by a healthcare professional can reduce the risk of infection.

Using the otoscope for home examination

I have a household otoscope. For example, a health care provider can teach parents of children who have frequent earaches and ear infections how to do ear tests at home. Here are some tips for testing your ears at home.

Before moving forward, take a look at the otoscope. For a better view of the ear canal, turn the tip of the field of view towards the nose.

Move the otoscope gently to see the walls of the ear canal and eardrum. If the person you are examining feels pain, stop the examination.

Be sure to see a doctor if you or your family have any of the following symptoms:

  • Ear discharge or bleeding
  • Dizziness
  • Malaria
  • Drinks in the ears
  • Severe pain in the ear
