On September 26, Google announced at its 15th anniversary event that it has developed a new algorithm that will affect more than 90% of global searches. It was dubbed 'Hummingbird.' Google's Amit Singhal later stated that it was the most significant modification to the algorithm since he joined the firm in 2001.
Some marketers were concerned, but at PubCon last week, Google's Matt Cutts reminded the audience that the algorithm had been in place for more than a month before it was published, and no one had noticed.
Hummingbird improves semantic search, allowing the Google search engine to do a better job. Hummingbird adds comprehension to the intent and contextual meaning of terms used in a query as conversational search becomes the norm.
