24-Apr-2023Backpropagation is a mathematical algorithm used in deep learning to train artificial neural networks. It is a method of computing the gradients of the loss function with respect to the weights of the network. The gradients are then used to update the weights of the network during the training process, which enables the network to improve its predictions over time.
Backpropagation works by computing the error at the output layer of the network and propagating it backwards through the network, layer by layer, to update the weights of each neuron. This process is repeated iteratively until the network converges to a set of weights that minimize the loss function.
During the forward pass, the network takes in input data and produces a prediction. The loss function is then computed based on the difference between the prediction and the actual output. The gradients of the loss function with respect to the weights of the network are then computed during the backward pass, using the chain rule of calculus to propagate the error backwards through the network.
By using backpropagation, deep learning models are able to learn from large amounts of data and improve their predictions over time. The weights of the network are updated during training, which allows the model to gradually adjust its parameters to better fit the data. This process enables deep learning models to learn complex patterns and relationships in the data, making them useful for a wide range of tasks such as image recognition, natural language processing, and speech recognition.
