Recent Open Source GA Announcements are led by VS Code Snippets.
According to GitHub's 'Release Radar' for November, a Visual Studio Code excerpts project is spearheading a slew of free software offers that became generally available in November.
The project in question is Snippets for VSCode 2.1 which, despite the minor-version classification, is the first full release.
'VS Code is one of the most popular code editors on the market,' GitHub noted this week in its monthly update summarising new GA announcements. 'Snippets for VS Code is a VS Code addon that allows developers to experiment with code snippets without leaving the editor. VSCode will sync snippets across all of your devices. While 2.1 may appear to be a minor update, it is the first version to be released as a full release. Congratulations to the team for completing the pre-release phase.'
It is described in the project's README.md file:
Code snippets are an excellent asset for anybody looking to save time while working. They make it simpler to insert code that repeats itself, such as loops, complicated HTML structures, or reusable functions. Snippets are already widely supported in Visual Studio Code, with snippets appearing in IntelliSense (Ctrl+Space), tab-completion, and a dedicated snippet selector (Insert Snippet in the Command Palette).
This plugin takes snippets to the next level by introducing additional capabilities that will improve code snippet management. The tool assists developers in creating, organizing, opening, editing, and syncing snippets. That latter functionality is still in beta since it makes use of VS Code's built-in Settings Sync feature, which is also in beta.
According to the project description: 'Snippets enables backup utilizing the VSCode Settings Sync feature starting with version 2.0 and higher. This implies you won't have to worry about snippets being stored on your local system. No matter what operating system you use, your snippets will be preserved alongside your VSCode data.'
The following features have been introduced since v2.0, according to the release notes:
1 ) Snippets can be provided as recommendations via IntelliSense or by entering the character '>'.
Vulnerable update dependencies.
2 )When dealing with the restoration process, use safer reasoning.
3) Instead of removing the backup, rename it.
4) As the default destination for snippets, use global state. There are no more files in the filesystem!
5)Using the VSCode API, enable sync.
6)Make option snippets more usable.
7) use Workspace Folder.
8)More efficiently refresh snippets across many open workspaces.
9) To automate Code Analysis, add GitHub Actions.
The project's Visual Studio Code Marketplace item states that it has almost 9,000 installs and has received an average rating of 3.7 (on a scale of 5) from six people who rated it.
