Windows 11 users are missing out on many functionalities, including the snipping tool.
Windows 11 was made available to all users last month. Aside from a few hiccups here and there, the newest version of Windows was sent out to consumers very smoothly (like AMD saying Windows 11 is slowing down its chips). There have been complaints of certain users being unable to use features like as the Snipping Tool, touch keyboard, voice typing, and emoji panel owing to an expired certificate.
Microsoft recognised the problem and stated in a support page that it has addressed it to some extent by providing an optional upgrade. It is unknown how many users have been impacted by this. Microsoft stated that beginning this month, certain Windows 11 users were unable to access preinstalled Windows apps and capabilities due to the expiration of a digital certificate on October 31.
Snipping Tool, accounts and language pages in the Settings app, the Start menu in S mode, touch keypad, voice typing, emoji panel, Input Method Editor user interface, Getting started, and Tips are among the features.
Microsoft has published an optional patch KB5006746 to address the issue somewhat. This patch resolves the certificate issue by adding features such as a touch keyboard, voice typing, emoji panels, and IMEUI. However, the fix does not restore the Snipping Tool or certain S Mode components.
In the interim, Microsoft advises users to utilise the standard screenshot capture method, which involves pressing the Print Screen key on the keyboard and pasting the screenshot into a document. Microsoft has said that a remedy would be available soon.
The table below contains solutions to the most frequent Windows update patching difficulties in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
