ISRO contributing in the 'Deep Ocean Mission' to send man in 6'000 meters deep
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), informed the Parliament about the planned manned mission ‘Samudrayaan’ to go under 6000 meters deep into the ocean.
The ISRO is largely known for sending satellites into space and other work related to space. This time it is contributing to the mission of sending a man in deep underwater having the depth of 6000 meters.
This is not the first mission of ISRO in the deep ocean as it has contributed to many earlier missions including the manned mission ‘Gangayaan’

Project 'Samudrayaan'
Under the ‘Deep Ocean Mission,’ a manned scientific Submersible has been proposed to be developed to explore the world of the deep ocean the structure is like the sphere.
The mission is governed by the government of India and the working of the mission is overlooked by the Science and Technology and Earth Science Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh. The ministry has filed a written detailed reply to Rajya Sabha on Thursday, 16 December 17, 2021.
The minister mentioned in his report, the detail about the sphere that is to be developed.
“One Titanium alloy personnel sphere for the manned submersible system for 6000-meter water depth rating is under development with the association of Vikram Bhai Sarabhai Space Center, ISRO, Thiruvananthpuram,” he added.
India has planned to send the manned mission to the space and Deep Ocean at the same time and the expected time for these missions is asked by the ministry in 2024. And the expected budget that is proposed by the government is about 4,100 crore for Deep Ocean Mission.
Significance of ‘Deep Ocean Mission
This will create a novel way to provide the exploration of ocean resources for the benefit of human life.
Deep Ocean has a tremendous amount of minerals and gasses which can contribute to our nation’s welfare. The mission can help in the area of green energy. Drinking water, and blue economy.
India is the first developing country to carry out such missions whereas other developed countries have carried out similar missions and explored many discoveries.
