Launch: James Webb Space Telescope, Sets Off on 930,000 - Mile Voyage
NASA launched a new Telescope that is the most powerful space telescope in the history of Space. The name of that Telescope is James Webb Space Telescope.
Highlighted Facts
- The Diameter of the James Webb Telescope is about 21 feet and about 6.5 meters.
- The Telescope will help the Scientist to understand the origin of the universe.
- It is believed that before the beginning of the operation it will need the ‘Unfolding’.
- The Telescope is named after the name of former NASA director Webb and follows his footstep.

The world’s most powerful Telescope is launched by NASA and it is to be expected to reach its destination after about one month and in its destination, it will cover almost 1.5 million Km. this was not the first time when It used to be launched many several times in the past the scientist tried to launch it but due to several tech problems worked as an obstacle in the launching.
NASA revealed the facts of investments and time that it consumes. The James Webb Telescope eats the investment of about Three Decades including Billions of Dollars. And left the earth to its Ariane 5 rocket from Kourou Space Centre in French Guiana.
The telescope was built by NASA’s Scientist and the head of scientific missions, Thomas Zurbuchen and European ESA, and Canadian Space ACS. And the head of NASA’s scientific mission said in a tweet “What an amazing day. It’s truly Christmas”.
NASA's Tweet
“Very happy to say that we have delivered the Spacecraft into orbit very precisely… that Ariane 5 performed extremely well,” said ECS chief Josef Aschbacher.
The Telescope will take around 1 month to reach its orbit and it will give new clues to the scientist that will help them to understand the origin of the universe and will also give the knowledge about the other planets as same as Earth.
The expectations have been made with the Telescope that it will provide the information about the earth and universe that how universe used to look like near the time of its birth.
The Webb Project Co-founder John Mather discussed the telescope’s unprecedented sensitivity and during the interaction with social media he said “#JWST can see the heat signature of a bumblebee at the distance of the Moon”.
He also told about the Telescope that the need for such sensitivity is very important to detect the ancient culture of the universe. As the power is needed to detect the weak glow of the emitted rays by the very first Galaxies and the first star of the solar system.
US President Words
Joe Biden, the President of the United States congratulated the Scientist and all the people of the country for making this a historian launch. Further in a Tweet, he said, “The Telescope is a Sinning temple of the power of what we can accomplish when we dream big”.
Exceptional measures
- The size and complexity of the Telescope are unequal.
- The size of the Telescope is about 6.5 meters and about 21 feet in diameter which is made up of 18 hexagonal sections and it is three times the size of a humbles mirror.
- The size of the telescope is such that it had been folded into the Telescope.
- As the Rocket will reach 120 Km the upper part of the rocket-like nose that protects the rocket called a “Fairing” will be shed to light the rod.
- The European Space Agency official on Thursday said: “Exceptional measures for exceptional clients” in Kourou.
- The previous one Hubble was placed about 600 km above the earth in 1999 and now this Telescope will be farther than Hubble.
- The Telescope will be placed in the location named Lagrange 2 and this exact location was chosen because it will have the earth, Sun, and the Moon will have all on the same side of the Sun shield.
- The Webb is expected to start its functioning from June.
- The biggest problematic situation for the Telescope is when it reaches its station, the challenge will be to fully deploy the mirror and a tennis court-sized Sun shield.
