YouTube, Spreading "Misinformation Worldwide" 80 Fact Checking Websites Claim
YouTube is spreading Misinformation Worldwide in its platform and efforts to address the problem are proving insufficient.
YouTube lets its platform be ‘Weaponised’ to spread the false info and face the claim of the fact-checkers organizations.

Currently, the world-famous platform for Video publishing YouTube is facing the claim of more than 80 fact-checking organizations that YouTube is spreading the rampant misinformation on the platform.
The groups also sent a letter to Google’s owned YouTube CEO, Susan Wojcicki in which they said “One of the major conduits of online disinformation and misinformation in the world.”
The organizations also said that YouTube’s effort to prove is insufficient.

“What we do not see is much effort by YouTube to implement policies that address the problem,” it also included “On the contrary, YouTube is allowing its platform to be weaponized by unscrupulous actors to manipulate and exploit others, and to organize and fundraise themselves.”
These groups also said that this problem is rampant in non- English speaking countries and especially the south of the world.
The Facts checkers are all the members of the International Fact-Checking Network and it also includes Rappler in the Philippines including the science Feedback in France, Africa Check, and many others claimed YouTube and said that the platform frames the discussion about disinformation as a “False Dichotomy” of deleting or not deleting content.
While writing the letter to the CEO of YouTube, they also wrote that displaying fact-checking information is large effective than deleting the malcontent from the platform.
YouTube Comment
The spokesperson of YouTube also commented on the matter as the company has “Invested heavily in policies and products in all countries we operate to connect people to authoritative content, reduce the spread of borderline misinformation, and remove violative videos.” Elena Hernandez, the YouTube CEO said.
She also added about fact-checking is “a crucial tool to help viewers make their own decision,” but, added more it is “One piece of much larger puzzle to address the spread of misinformation.”
