Snapchat Controls Friend Suggestions For Teen Accounts, Reveals Measures To Combat Drug Spread
Snapchat nowadays is planning to limits the friend suggestions for Teen Accounts and also revealed some measures to combat the drug spread.
It said about 80% of drug content has been proactively detected in the service and it will be restricted. The company also revealed that it is looking forward to providing a parental, atmosphere for the minors users.

The company said it will restrict the feature of providing Quick Add features to limit adults’ strangers from contacting minors to add them as their friends. The purpose of the company to change the features is to provide the parental controls that will help to limit such activities in the platform. Such a feature is designed to protect from 13 to 17 age person of the platform.
Snapchat has also revealed that it has planned to combat the drug activity that has been circulating in the platform and affects the minor as well. The decision to control the Quick Add service is also a part of the object to combat the drug market and content in the platform. The company also has said that it has been working to find the content illegal as per the law enforcement agencies and provide assistance as much as possible to these agencies.
Snapchat on Tuesday explained the new safeguard in a blog post.
As per the report, Snapchat told it has added new curbing safeguards in its Quick Add feature that suggests friends to Snapchat users on their app. It said the adults will only be able to see the profile pic of the minors only if the minors have any knowledge related to them. It says that the decision will help to ensure the profiles of users of 13 to 17 will be discovered by someone they know in real life.
As per the blog post, Snapchat published and the steps that have been taken by the platform are the measures to combat the “fentanyl epidemic” and to keep drug dealers and users away from connecting with minors. The Snapchat platforms also have been included in the list of the platforms that provided the drug-related pills to many US minors resulted in the deaths of many and these pills were mostly sold on such platforms. The pills are being sold on platforms like Instagram and Snapchat. The death of such accidents reached 93,000 in 2020.
“This is a constant, and ongoing effort that not only prohibits Snapchat from getting search results of those terms.”
