WHY IN NEWS
WhatsApp Desktop has apparently launched a feature that allows users to get a report on their account information and preferences from the Meta-owned instant messaging programme. The dedicated feature, dubbed Request Account Info, has been available to mobile users on both Android and iOS thus far. It allows users to send a request to WhatsApp and export a report that includes information about their behaviour, privacy settings, and the devices from which they access the messaging programme. WhatsApp Desktop beta version 2.2204.1 has references to the Request Account Info option, according to a report by WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo. However, beta testers have not yet been given access to the new feature.

WhatsApp hopes to enable desktop users to produce a report containing their account information and preferences by introducing the request account information functionality. In 2018, WhatsApp implemented a Request Account Info option for Android and iOS smartphones, similar to what is presently available on its desktop version. It was created ahead of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) becoming law, with the goal of allowing users to see all of the data WhatsApp has acquired via their account. WhatsApp normally takes three days to make your report accessible for download and export after you request it. Users with mobile devices have the option to remove the downloaded file permanently. It's vital to note that, as stated on a FAQ page, the report created via the request account information tool does not allow users to view messages or chats they've had on WhatsApp.
