European Space Agency Shows stunning Mars Images With Mounds, Ripples, Tracks
European Space Agency has revealed some unique images of Mars planet in which there are many chaotic mounds, wind-sculpted ripples, dust devil tracks.
The images focused on how the Mars landscape is sculpted by winds.
Highlighted Facts
- The images of Mars have been captured by the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO).
- This agency ExoMars is led by the two ESA and Roscosmos.
- The camera of TGO’s named CaSSIS adds a unique blue color to the image.

The European Space Agency has shown some stunning photos of Mars that demonstrate how winds formed the landscape of the planet. The image has been captured by the camera of CaSSIS used in project ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO). The artificial hues are because of the camera used in the project which has the feature to add infrared wavelength to capture more detail. The place of the planet that is shown in the picture is the commonplace where the thin atmosphere, powerful winds, and vast amounts of dust combine to form spectacular features on the surface.
The space agency ESA has shared these images on the social media platform Instagram and described them with the words “The devils definitely in the detail” the caption of the post also includes “chaotic mounds, wind-sculpted ripples, and dust devil tracks: this image shows a fascinating landscape near Hooke Crater in Mars’ southern highlands.”
The agency also mentions the image of Mars, the view is akin to a chaotic terrain, a broken and disrupted topography seen across Mars, the planet has a haphazard cluster with various sized rocks are found together.
The ESA Stated
“Perhaps the most striking feature here is the wispy, snaking tendrils stretching out across the frame,” ESA stated said in a caption and also included that dust devils are also used to show in Mars and Earth. This is the main responsible for these traces on the past activity. When they passed through a dusty region, these “devils leave tracks on a planet surface.” These traces are said to be in north-south, indicating a likely local wind pattern.
It has been revealed, three filters have been used to make the effect of the image as the bluish hue.
