In a long decision, Orrick said the evidence found has helped the jury and supported the findings by the jury of Tesla was liable for the profound emotional harm Diaz faced in the factory and the inadequate steps taken by the company.
Diaz has got the justice but the judge has reduced the amount of compensation Diaz has asked from the court against the violation of his legal right. The judge has reduced damages from $6.9 million to $1.5 million.
A lawyer of Diaz, Bernard Alexander said in an interview that his client has the plans to appeal the lowered damage award.
Alexander said “We are pleased that the court upheld the jury’s finding that Tesla’s conduct was reprehensible,” Lawyer said.
Also added “The award of $1.5 million is substantial but does not come close to reflecting the harm caused to Mr. Diaz or the reprehensibility of Tesla’s conduct,” Alexander said.
