WhatsApp has banned the 1.85 million accounts in March and Received 407 ban appeals
The social media giant WhatsApp has received a total of 597 grievances from users across India. WhatsApp has said it has taken strong action against such grievances which it has received via the grievance mechanism of WhatsApp.

Via the Grievance mechanism of WhatsApp, it has taken strong action against the grievances it received from users in India and it has banned a total of 1.85 million accounts in March 2022. According to the IT rules 2021, it has released the 10th user safety monthly report. These reports show that the company has actioned some accounts in India through its prevention and detection method for violating the statutes of WhatsApp and India.
The latest WhatsApp monthly report details the information for the period from March 1 to March 30 under rule 4(1) (d) of the Information Technology (Intermediary guidelines and Digital Media Ethics code) Rules, 2021.
The report shows the total number of grievances submitted to the social media giant is 597 were sent to WhatsApp and out of them only 112 have a relation to accounting support, out of the 407 were related to banning appeals, 37 grievances were related to product support, only 13 of them were related to safety, and the rest of the grievances request was related to other support.
Of the grievances received by WhatsApp only 74 of them were actioned and all of them belonged to the ban appeal category.
WhatsApp says for tackling abuses on the platform “the abuse detection operates at three stages of an account’s lifestyle: at registration, during messaging, and in response to negative feedback, received in the form of user reports and blocks. A team of analysts augments these systems to evaluate edge cases and help improve effectiveness over time. We have detailed our on-platform capabilities to identify and ban accounts in this white paper.”
