The government has called a meeting with the cab aggregators like Ola and Uber on Tuesday to discuss their policies including fare calculation, surge pricing, ride cancellations, and measures that they should take the cab aggregators for the data protection of customers, the information said by the Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh on Monday.
In current circumstances, complaints have risen against the cab aggregators for using unfair practices on these platforms. The unfair trade practices include a cancellation policy as drivers force customers to cancel trips after receiving bookings, which results in customers paying cancellation penalties.
While speaking on the sidelines of an event organised by the ministry, Rohit Singh said “We have sought information from cab aggregators how they handle cancellation charges and surge pricing and how they calculate the fare,” Singh said in a meeting.
He added “We have asked why the charges to go from point A to B are different for two different people,” the related ministry would also confirm whether the cab aggregators would have taken adequate measures to safeguard consumer data on their platforms.
The secretory also said “we have asked for information. We will discuss with them and based on the outcome we will take further action,” in a meeting.
