Customizing Results have Become Easier with Brave
Brave Search has launched a new feature that provides the simplest way to create or apply custom filters that could change the way its results are ranked. It’s referred to as “Goggles,” and it might help to uncover the sources that one may not notice the right way on traditional search engines like Google.
Well, Brave has some demos for today that it has prepared for the users to try, along with the ones that place posts from smaller tech blogs and separate such posts from the 1,000 most-viewed sites on the web. There’s even a Goggle to exclude posts from Pinterest because Brave is already aware of the degree of frustration created while finding an image and getting a Pinterestpost without any source. Brave says these Goggles are only for demonstrative purposes, and it depends on the developers whether they would like to expand on or fork them. Once users start developing their Goggles on their own, they will begin deleting these Goggles. However, Pinterest should stick around.
While Brave states that its engine is independent of entities like Google and Bing and “has no editorial bias,” the words do not bring any change to the fact that there are inherent biases in all algorithms. Goggles meant to mitigate this would provide a hand to shape what those biases are.
After attempting to try the feature, the feature seemed to impress people with the way it works. However, Brave’s Goggles worked surprisingly so well.
While working, it seemed a little disappointing when it seemed that creating one’s Goggle is not as easy as it was assumed. Previously, people thought that they might toggle on a bunch of filters or enter their keywords, and then this is how it worked but this was not the case here. Well, it seemed to have some coding involved with which the developers can go through the tool on GitHub.
During the launch of Goggles, Brave has also announced that the search engine is running out of beta. Brave also mentions that it has already seen 2.5 billion searches since last year. Well, it can be witnessed that Brave is quickly turning into the Swiss army knife of search engines. It drags our attention towards a new discussion feature in April that has started eliminating the necessity for users to add “Reddit” at the end of their searches. Therefore, it is currently displaying results from Reddit for relevant inquiries.
