HIGHLIGHTS
- Google has announced about its Wallet app
- The Wallet app would replace the present Google Pay app
- It makes it easier to store all the digital cards and pay with the Android phone
During the 2022 I/O event, Google has announced about its Wallet app, pitching it as an app to manage all of the digital cards. It would be not only for payment, like debit and credit cards (though it will hold those), but also for digital representations of one’s identification, vaccination status, tickets, keys, and a lot more as well.
In most of the countries, the Wallet app would be replacing the present Google Pay app. (It is believed that an update is currently rolling out as an update to Google Pay.) However, Google had mentioned that users in the U.S. and Singapore would use both the Google Pay as well as Wallet. In those countries, Google Pay would stick around as the way to send money to the friends.
Google’s had many iterations of Google Wallet which eventually came before the one rolling out today. In 2011, there was an NFC payment app which evolved to include different other payment features, like peer-to-peer money transfers (there was even a physical Google Wallet debit credit at one point). Well, in 2018 Google had combined itself with the Android Pay to make Google Pay. Currently, in most places at least that app would get start to flip into Wallet. Though, it would be another huge change in a very long line of shake-ups for Google’s payment apps however hopefully it would be the one which would make it easier to store all the digital cards and pay altogether with the Android phone itself.
