Passengers Data Monetisation Plan got Scrapped by IRCTC
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation NSE -1.09 percent (IRCTC) has wasted its passengers data monetization plan following backlash on privacy problems. An official statement has mentioned that IRCTC NSE -3.74 has withdrawn the tender for appointment of consultant for suggesting business strategies by using the data available.

This development was taken place on the day a parliamentary panel had referred to the representatives of IRCTC to be briefed on the subject of citizens’ data security and privacy.
IRCTC was facing flak for floating an expression of interest (EOI) to rope in a consultant in order to explore avenues passenger data monetization. The criticism was amplified since the country doesn't have an information protection framework in place.
As per the company official a final decision on its way ahead for data monetization was to be taken at a far later stage and from which the present exercise was very preliminary in nature.
