Indian startups will soon launch space satellites, says Jitendra Singh
The Union Minister for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, announced on Monday that Indian companies would soon test their rockets and launch satellite constellations as well as space satellites.
Speaking at the India Space Conclave in this city on the occasion of the Indian Space Association's first anniversary, Jitendra Singh claimed that PM Modi's 'revolutionary and unconventional decision' to open up the space industry to private business in June 2020 altered the country's entire space ecosystem.
The Minister further mentioned that L&T and HAL are making five PSLVs domestically, and OneWeb is preparing to use ISRO and NSIL to launch its satellites.
In a short period of time, Singh claimed, 'from a few space start-ups three to four years ago, now we have 102 startups working in cutting-edge areas like space debris management, nano-satellites, launch vehicles, ground systems, research, etc.'
The minister asserted that a Space Revolution, spearheaded by ISRO in conjunction with the private sector and startups, is imminent as a result of the merger of R&D, university, and business with equal stakes.
In the future, the country's youthful, private industrial company will lead the disruption of global space technology, according to Singh, thanks to its strength and creative capacity.
He expressed hope that India's young scientific wizards will overcome fresh challenges in the field of space technology in order to benefit from the limitless possibilities offered by the space domain.
The minister lauded ISpA's contribution to creating and forging connections around the world for the growth of the Indian space industry in just one year. He claimed that ISpA members are always working to promote policy change and engage in the sharing of information and vision in order to elevate India to the position of leader in the field of space technology. The Indian government is working hard to position India as a leader in the field of commercial space-based missions, and ISpA is supporting with that endeavour in a big way.
The minister anticipated that ISpA would follow the government's plan for space reforms and uphold the slogan 'Atmanirbhar Bharat,' which would result in huge investments and scientific advancements for the country.
Speaking specifically about the strategic importance of space in light of recent international conflicts, Jitendra Singh said that space is emerging as a significant, multifaceted enabler that offers unprecedented reach. Space is a dual-use technology domain.
