Aadhaar enrolment for newborns with birth certificates to all, across all states.
According to government officials cited by Press Trust of India, all states are expected to provide Aadhaar membership in the upcoming months, extending beyond the 16 states that presently do.
Currently, 16 states offer Aadhaar-linked birth registration. Over the course of the procedure, which began more than a year ago, many states have been included. All states should be able to offer the service over the next few months, according to the government agency that issues Aadhaar numbers, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), adding to the ease for new parents. The remaining states are still working on their projects.
The biometric data of children under the age of five is not collected. Based on demographic information and a facial image linked to their parent's UID, their UID is processed. Consequently, a biometric update (ten fingers, iris, and facial photographs) is required after the child turns five and fifteen.
More than 1,000 state and federal government programmes presently utilise Aadhaar to identify and authenticate recipients, disperse benefits, and avoid duplication. All of these programmes, which rely on the Aadhaar ecosystem and its biometric authentication, are run by the federal government and over 650 state governments, respectively.
As of right now, 134 crore Aadhaar card have been issued. This 12-digit biometric identifying number saw improvements and enrollments totaling about 20 crore last year. 4 crore of these were new enrollments, which included infants and kids up to age 18. Just 30 lakh fresh adults enrolled in classes.
According to the sources, the current goal is to ensure that Aadhaar is issued at the same time as the birth certificate. States with complete computerization have signed up for the birth registration process, which calls for online birth registration.
It was not possible to find the complete list of states that use Aadhaar-linked birth registration right quickly. Every time a birth certificate is issued in 16 states, the UIDAI system receives a notification, at which point an enrollment ID number is generated, according to sources. An Aadhaar number is produced as soon as a child's data, including a photo and address, is uploaded into the system. Birth registrars regularly act as Aadhaar enrolment agents, which enables them to enrol for Aadhaar, per reports reported by Press Trust of India.
