Google claims it will examine the Rs. 1,337 billion penalty judgement from CCI.
Google received a fine from CCI for exploiting its dominating position in numerous markets for the ecosystem of Android mobile devices. Google today referred to the decision as a 'significant setback' for Indian consumers and enterprises.
Google was fined Rs 1,337.76 crore by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Thursday for abusing its dominant position in a number of countries for the android mobile device ecosystem. The IT giant has begun reviewing CCI's decision to impose the penalty and the claimed anti-competitive practise as of right now. Google has referred to the decision as a 'significant setback' for Indian consumers and businesses.
After the CCI order, Google's first public statement was that Android had apparently increased options for everyone and supported thousands of globally and nationally successful businesses.
The CCI's judgement is a big setback for Indian consumers and businesses, opening serious security concerns for Indians who trust Android's security measures, and increasing the cost of mobile devices for Indians, according to a statement from a Google spokeswoman in an email. In addition, Google stated that it would 'review the decision to evaluate the next actions.'
Google was told to stop being the internet giant and stop employing several unfair business practises after being fined Rs 1,337.76 crore for exploiting various markets for Android mobile devices.
Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of smart devices including smartphones, smart TVs, smartwatches, and tablets, to name a few, install Android, a well-known open-source mobile operating system.
In April 2019, CCI began the investigation, and the court ruled that the original equipment manufacturers should not be restricted from selecting which of Google's proprietary apps to pre-install on their Android-based devices and should not be required to do so.
