New DC Studios will be co-led by James Gunn and Peter Safran for Warner Bros.
As co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios, a recently established production company that will manage DC properties for Warner Bros. Discovery, James Gunn and Peter Safran have been chosen.
The DC characters that Gunn and Safran have cherished since they were children are in good hands, they stated. Film, TV, and animation at DC Studios will now be managed by Gunn and Safran. They will start in their new positions on November 1. They'll collaborate closely with Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, co-chairs and CEOs of the Warner Bros. Film Group, and they'll answer to David Zaslav, president and chief executive officer of Warner Bros. Discovery. Both are anticipated to carry on working on additional projects away from Washington, DC.
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, said that DC has some of the most entertaining, potent, and well-known characters in the entire world. 'I am thrilled to have the singular and complementary talents of James and Peter join our world-class team and oversee the creative direction of the storied DC Universe,' Zaslav said.
They have decades of filmmaking experience, strong ties to the creative community, and a proven track record of thrilling superhero fans all over the world, making them uniquely qualified to create a long-term strategy across film, TV, and animation and take this iconic franchise to the next level of creative storytelling.
Since it was revealed that Walter Hamada would be leaving his position as the head of DC Films, the search has been on for someone to govern the DC Universe. Numerous names had been suggested for the position, but nothing was confirmed until recently.
Gunn has directed movies for both Marvel and DC, so he is familiar with the realm of comic book adaptations in general. While the teaser for the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy' holiday special on Disney+ recently dropped, he is presently working on the third 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie for Marvel. Additionally, Gunn produced the HBO Max spinoff series 'Peacemaker' and wrote and directed the DC soft reboot of 'The Suicide Squad.'
In addition to 'Aquaman' and its upcoming sequel, 'Shazam' and its upcoming sequel, as well as 'The Suicide Squad' and 'Peacemaker' with Gunn, Safran has produced a number of DC movies. The Safran Company, his production company, has extended its production agreement with WB.
De Luca and Abdy declared, 'We could not be more delighted to have James Gunn and Peter Safran join the team and take the helm of the DC Universe.' 'To have Peter and James agree to collaborate to create this new era for DC is a literal dream come true. Peter is a wonderfully successful and prolific producer, and James is a brilliant filmmaker and storyteller.
