According to reports, the Indian IT Ministry requested information from WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, regarding the causes of the messaging app's service outage on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, WhatsApp users complained that they were unable to send or receive text and video messages. The restoration of services took over two hours.
According to sources, the IT Ministry has urged the business to disclose the causes of the WhatsApp outage. WhatsApp did not respond to a question about the matter that was made via email.
In a late-night announcement on Tuesday, WhatsApp claimed that a 'technical problem' was to blame for the outage. A spokeswoman for the Meta firm had stated that 'the brief downtime was the consequence of a technical fault on our end and has since been fixed.'
On Tuesday afternoon, many users reported issues with the messaging service in many different areas, according to the outage tracking website Downdetector. Members of Downdetector highlighted over 29,000 reports at one point on Tuesday during the outage.
According to Downdetector's heatmap, the issue had an effect on WhatsApp users in several major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata.
The Ministry of Information Technology reportedly requested a thorough report from social media behemoth WhatsApp on Wednesday. The Union Minister for Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, is quoted as saying, 'Have have lakhs of WhatsApp users across the country and we called for a comprehensive report from the business about the outage,' according to ANI.
