PayPal and Venmo will be supported by Apple's Tap to Pay feature on the iPhone.
Merchants will be able to take contactless payments on their iPhones through the PayPal or Venmo iOS applications once PayPal and Venmo support Apple's Tap to Pay contactless payments technology.
US-based businesses will find it simpler to accept payments directly on their iPhones thanks to PayPal. In order for retailers to take contactless credit or debit cards as well as mobile wallets without an additional card reader, the company is integrating support for Apple's Tap to Pay technology into the PayPal and Venmo iOS apps.
In February, Apple debuted Tap to Pay. The adoption of Apple's touchless technology may have advanced significantly with the integration with PayPal and Venmo's apps. This could be advantageous for businesses that don't want to rely on third-party readers to accept contactless payments. Additionally, it will help PayPal compete with Square, a rival in the payments industry, which introduced Tap to Pay support in September.
Support for PayPal and Venmo will be added 'soon,' according to PayPal's Thursday Q3 2022 earnings report (pdf). Not only has PayPal recently added this feature to Venmo, but Venmo is now now a valid payment method on Amazon.
Earlier this year, Tap To Pay was introduced as a method for leveraging iPhones and NFC to perform contactless payments. Until now, it was only available through Square's merchant app and at Apple Stores, so the addition of widely used alternative payment methods makes it more convenient for customers and business owners who don't need to invest in additional gear.
You'll soon be able to choose Apple Pay in addition to other payment choices when you shop online using PayPal's checkout process. Additionally, US customers will be able to link network-branded credit and debit cards from PayPal and Venmo to Apple Wallet starting in 2019 so they may use them anywhere Apple Pay is accepted.
Apple retail locations offer Tap to Pay, and Square has also made the feature available. Without a Square add-on hardware device, small businesses and independent retailers that utilise Square for payment processing can accept contactless payments directly via the Square Point of Sale app.
On the iPhone XS or newer, the Tap to Pay feature is supported, and it is straightforward to use. Simply launch the app, log the sale, and hand over your iPhone to the buyer so they may pay with a compatible contactless payment option. Tap to Pay is also used by Stripe, Adyen, and other companies.
