Apple is testing improved control over the Always-On Display feature in the iPhone 14 Pro.
- Wallpaper and notifications are currently displayed on the iPhone 14 Pro always-on display.
- In order to prolong battery life, it also lowers the refresh rate of the display.
- The always-on display feature is not available on the iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Plus.
With its most recent iOS beta, Apple is testing the option to customise the always-on display on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max devices. According to reports, the iOS 16.2 beta update has toggles that permit users to hide the wallpaper and notifications when utilising the function.
Users can monitor updates on their phone's display while using a muted version of their lock screen thanks to the always-on display function, which makes use of the OLED display on the
iPhone 14 Pro models. In place of the wallpaper, the most recent iOS beta lets users view a clock and their Lock Screen widgets.
The user will only see a clock and their Lock Screen widgets when the phone is locked if two new toggles on the most recent iOS 16.2 beta with always-on activated are turned off. Once the Always On Display function is activated, the Show Notifications and Show Wallpaper toggles can be turned on and off.
Owners of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max can currently use iOS to have an always-on display that shows notifications and wallpaper. Like the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and earlier iPhone models, users can also turn it off, rendering the phone's screen blank when it is locked and asleep.
While some individuals do appreciate their wallpaper blazing at them constantly (even if it appears faded, the colours are accurate), others find it to be a little annoying. Although the refresh rate of the display has already been slowed down to conserve battery, the additional toggles should allow for even greater battery savings as majority of the OLED display is off.
Apple appears to be planning to update its always-on display feature in response to user complaints. Although the functionality is now in beta testing, there is no assurance that it will be made accessible when iOS 16.2 is made available. To address any problems with the functionality, the business can decide to roll it out in a subsequent version.
