Elon Musk wants to be sure that impersonation would stop before relaunching Twitter Blue.
- Twitter has suspended the $8 Blue Check subscription service that was just unveiled.
- Advertisers on Twitter, including General Motors, have suspended their campaigns.
- According to Musk's message, Twitter gained 1.6 million new users last week.
Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, announced on Monday that the social media platform is postponing the introduction of its blue check subscription service, delaying his first estimated schedule to bring the service back to the platform.
In a tweet, Musk stated that he was delaying the debut of Blue Verified 'until there is high confidence of stopping imitation.' For organisations rather than for people, a separate colour check will likely be used.
Up until now, the coveted blue check mark has only been awarded to verified accounts of journalists, public figures, famous people, and politicians. To help Twitter increase revenue while Musk battles to keep advertisers, a membership option that is available to anyone willing to pay was launched earlier this month. Twitter halted the recently announced $8 (about Rs. 650) blue check membership service and said it would restart on November 29 due to the proliferation of fake accounts.
Musk stated in a tweet last week that the change to a user's verified name would result in the loss of the blue check until Twitter confirmed the name to comply with the terms of service. Musk noted in a tweet that the 1.6 million new users on Twitter during the past week were 'another all-time high.
Many Twitter advertisers, including major corporations like General Motors, Mondelez International, and Volkswagen AG, have stopped their campaigns until they adjust to the new CEO. '. Following Musk's Thursday deadline for employees to sign up for 'long hours at high intensity' or resign their jobs, hundreds of Twitter employees are also thought to have left last week.
According to a previous statement by Musk, accounts that impersonate another person on Twitter without explicitly designating it as a 'parody' account would be immediately and permanently suspended. Nintendo and BP were two of the bogus brand accounts that were suspended.
