Amazon Academy will close as edtech companies struggle with post-epidemic issues.
- Last year, Amazon announced the opening of Amazon Academy.
- Additionally, the portal provided particularly designed practise exams.
- Vedantu and WhiteHat Jr. had also disclosed layoffs.
Less than two years after its introduction, Amazon announced on Thursday that it would shut down its online learning programme for high-school students in India.
The Amazon Academy platform was unveiled during the COVID-19 pandemic at the beginning of the year. The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), which determines admission to the top engineering institutes in India, was one of the competitive tests for which coaching was provided.
The e-commerce behemoth announced the opening of Amazon Academy last year, stating that the study guides and test questions offered through Amazon Academy were created by knowledgeable academics from all around the nation.
In addition to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) engineering tests, the platform's content resources were created to aid students in getting ready for the BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE, and MET exams.
The platform also provided custom designed mock exams with over 15,000 hand-selected questions and advice from subject matter experts. Additionally, it regularly broadcast live All India Mock Tests (AIMT).
Students could also access daily practise problems or arrange courses. In order to aid engineering students in improving their performance, Amazon Academy also allowed users to track their progress over time and pinpoint both strong and weak areas.
Additionally, it gave information on the general test-taking approach. According to a statement released by the e-commerce giant, Amazon Academy would be discontinued 'in a progressive way to take care of current clients' following an evaluation.
As many edtech companies struggle under the weight of Indian schools and coaching facilities reopening after lockdowns called on by COVID-19, the winding down is taking place. Byju's, a pioneer in the sector, stated last month that it would fire 2,500 employees as it attempts to turn a profit. According to local media sources, additional players Unacademy, Toppr, WhiteHat Jr., and Vedantu all announced layoffs earlier this year.
