OpenAI recently introduced a new test monthly subscription for ChatGPT, its text-generating AI that can generate impressively human-like essays, poetry, emails, lyrics, and more, to make money off of what has grown to be a worldwide sensation. 

The platform, called ChatGPT Plus, has several advantages versus ChatGPT, according to OpenAI. These advantages include direct access to ChatGPT during busy hours, quicker response times, and privileged access to new applications and upgrades.

The basic ChatGPT tier is still available and won't be eliminated. At the time, clients in the United States were the only ones who could use ChatGPT Plus. In the upcoming months, OpenAI says it will start inviting people from its waitlist and will work to broaden Plus to new nations and areas 'soon.'

According to a blog post by OpenAI, 'We released ChatGPT as a research preview to understand more regarding the system's advantages and drawbacks and seek user comments to assist us better upon its limits.'

 Since then, 'millions of individuals have provided us with responses, we've created several major improvements, and we've seen folks discover value across a variety of professional utilization cases, including creating and editing content, coming up with ideas, getting assistance with programming, and discovering new topics.'

OpenAI suggests that ChatGPT Plus could be the first of several upcoming proposals. The firm claims in the blog entry that, in conjunction to an API, it is 'actively evaluating' options for more affordable plans, business strategies, and data packs.

'We will keep providing free access to ChatGPT since we like our free members. We would be able to assist the provision of free accessibility to as many individuals as possible by providing this subscription cost, the business added. 'Based on your comments and demands, we intend to improve and grow this product.'

OpenAI anticipated the debut of ChatGPT Plus in early January, claiming that it was 'beginning to consider methods for monetizing ChatGPT,' and published a survey outlining the possible pricing and benefits for a 'ChatGPT Professional' plan. 

Then, just a few weeks ago, numerous ChatGPT members claimed that they had been provided access to a $42 per month pro tier, which in hindsight, was a mistake.

Despite concerns and several bans, ChatGPT has succeeded in generating significant media coverage for OpenAI and innumerable online jokes. As of the beginning of December, ChatGPT had over a million users, a great user volume by any standard. 

But maintaining the service is expensive. Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, described ChatGPT's operational costs as 'eye-watering,' with a total computation cost of just a few cents per chat.

Despite receiving a multi-billion dollar investment from Microsoft, OpenAI is under pressure to make money on services like ChatGPT. Considering approximately $1 billion already invested in the firm, OpenAI anticipates earning just $200 million in 2023.
 

To make Bing more effective with Google, Semafor claims that Microsoft is trying to integrate OpenAI's text-generating technology into Bing in the upcoming weeks. A smartphone ChatGPT app will be released by OpenAI individually in the future.
