The major improvement to Google Maps enables users to fly through cities like a drone
Google has announced the release of immersive view, an AI-based feature for the Google Maps application. Using AI and computer vision, the tech giant claims that immersive view combines billions of Street View and aerial photographs to create a detailed digital model of the planet. The company will launch the product in five cities.
The feature is now being implemented in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo. The business announced that the service would expand to more locations in the upcoming months, including Amsterdam, Dublin, Florence, and Venice.
Additionally, immersive views layer helpful details like the weather, traffic, and location density. A time slider was also included in the app so that users may view the area at various times.
"Last year, we revealed our vision for Google Maps' future: an immersive, user-friendly map that reimagines how you explore and travel while guiding you towards more environmentally friendly decisions.

With upgrades to immersive view and live view as well as new capabilities for users of electric vehicles (EVs) and individuals who walk, cycle, or take public transportation, we're showing how AI is bringing this vision to reality today, according to a blog post from Google.
Additionally, the business unveiled its AI-based Search with Live View function for interior and outdoor navigation. Simply following powered arrows based on augmented reality assists users in finding parks, restaurants, ATMs, and more.
The immersive view is "an entirely new method to exploring a place—letting you feel like you're genuinely there, even before you arrive," according to Chris Phillips, a general manager at Google.
"Introductory view uses AI and computer vision advancements to merge billions of Street View and aerial pictures to build a prosperous, digital model of the Earth. On top of that, it provides pertinent information like the weather, traffic, and the degree of activity in a particular area.
Along with the Google Maps apps for Android and iOS, there are plans to make the additional capacity available to PC users.

The goal is to make it easier for individuals to plan trips by providing them with a new way to locate building entrances, figure out where to park, and estimate how crowded a destination gets throughout the day.
Google is also enhancing Maps with new augmented reality (AR) elements through Live View. More than 1,000 airports, train stations, and shopping malls will soon be included in the navigation feature, which uses arrows powered by augmented reality to direct users in the right direction.
The upgrades to augmented reality coincide with rival Apple's increasing focus on the technology, which has led to immersive exploration becoming a prominent feature of its most recent Apple Maps app.
