Meta Platforms said on Sunday that it is testing a monthly subscription service called Meta Verified that will let users verify their accounts with a government ID and get a blue badge. The company wants to help content creators grow and build communities.
Later this week, the subscription bundle for Facebook and Instagram will be made accessible. It will begin at either $11.99 per month for the web or $14.99 per month for Android and Apple's iOS operating systems.

Yet it's not apparent whether consumers want to pay for things that have previously been offered for free. Twitter's subscription service hasn't garnered much momentum. The most crucial element of Meta's membership plan could be the "increased visibility" part.

Nowadays, it's tougher to stand out on Facebook or Instagram, even among a user's own followers. Instead of just showing users content from people they follow, the company has started pointing users in the direction of other information that they might find interesting.
According to the company, greater exposure will lead to prominence in other platform functions including search, comments, and recommendations.
Unlike Twitter, which does so through the subscription, Meta will need users to validate their identity with a government ID in order to obtain a verification badge. Meta will start testing the subscription service in Australia and New Zealand later this week.
