OneWeb's mobile service can match western prices but not India's
OneWeb, a supplier of satellite communication services, can equal the cost of mobile services in developed nations, but it is unable to match the "very cheap" tariff in India, according to Sunil Bharti Mittal, the company's executive chairman.
Thanks to the early-morning launch of 36 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites by NewSpace India Ltd, the OneWeb network now has 618 satellites for global coverage, including India.
While describing the OneWeb launch and services, Mittal indicated that if a village's population of 30–40 households uses it, the services will be inexpensive and on par with mobile prices.
Nevertheless, the services will be more expensive in India for individual use compared to existing mobile service rates.
"If you ask me, can the costs of satellite communication be compared to cell phone rates? All that is now doable in the West can be done immediately. What can I get in India for $2 or $5 each month? No, since the cost is so minimal "affirmed Mittal.
He said that in order to start providing services in India, the company expects to have received all relevant permits by July or August.

OneWeb is authorised to provide satellite services, but it is required to hold off until the Spacecom Policy is in place and the company is granted spectrum to use for signal transmission.
As it is doubtful that Chinese terminals would be made across most of the world, India will become a location for the production of these terminals, according to Mittal.
The founder of the Bharti group also stated that he anticipates all approvals needed for service launches in India to be in place by July or August and that the business will offer the service through partners as opposed to doing it directly.
"We won't be visiting final consumers. I won't go to war with Airtel, Jio, Vodafone, or any other telecom company worldwide. In combination with them, "By Mittal.
He said that the business had spoken to the Indian navy and armed forces and that everyone was looking forward to the services.
"With the Airtel enterprise branch, these services would be made available to corporate customers. The primary sales route to the remaining market, which includes the government, defence, and aerospace industries, will be our cooperation with Hughes." from Mittal.

A K Bhatt, the director general of the Indian Space Association, stated that the completion of the final leg of the 600-satellite first-generation LEO constellation by Bharti-backed OneWeb has significantly raised the bar for the entire Indian space industry in terms of downstream applications of satellite communication in India.
"Without a doubt, this will assist in addressing the issue of low fixed broadband penetration and bridging the digital divide in the country's most remote areas. We are excited about its potential and the benefits it will provide for our nation's digital transformation goals "Bhatt tacked on.
