Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General backed a proposal by some executives of the artificial intelligence-based field in order to create an international AI watchdog authority that will be similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The latest Generative AI technology that poses the ability and can spin authoritative prose from text prompts, not it has captivated the public since ChatGPT was launched just about six months ago that has become the fastest-growing app of all time. Artificial intelligence-based technology has drawn massive attention that can create deepfake pictures and other misinformation.
“Alarm bells over the latest form of artificial intelligence- generative AI- are deafening. And they are loudest from the developers who designed it,” the UN chief told. He further said, “We must take those warnings seriously.”
He made an announcement of the start of the plan which will encounter the misuse of such AI technology and review governance arrangements with the help of a high-level AI advisory body. This will also give recommendations on how they can align with human rights, the rule of law, and human good.
“I would be favorable to the idea that we could have an artificial intelligence agency… inspired by what the international agency of atomic energy is today.” Said Guterres on Monday.
He stated that he also supported the plan for a summit in Britain, but Guterres said such technology should be preceded by “serious work”. He said he had a plan to make an appointment in the coming days with the scientific advisory board of AI veterans and chief scientists from UN agencies.
