SemiconIndia 2023: Micron Technology to create 20,000 jobs by setting up Gujarat plant
Gandhinagar, Gujarat, July 28, 2023 - Micron Technology, a leading global memory and storage solutions company, announced today that it will set up a semiconductor assembly and test (SATE) facility in Gujarat, India. The plant is expected to create 20,000 jobs, both direct and indirect, and will be Micron's first semiconductor manufacturing facility in India.
The announcement was made at the SemiconIndia 2023 conference, which is being held in Gandhinagar this week. Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said that the company is "excited to invest in India and to be a part of the country's growing semiconductor ecosystem."
The Gujarat plant will be a state-of-the-art facility that will produce DRAM and NAND memory products for the global market. The plant is expected to start production in 2025.
The announcement of Micron's investment is a major boost for India's semiconductor industry. India is currently a major consumer of semiconductors, but it does not have a significant manufacturing presence. The government has been working to attract semiconductor investment in recent years, and Micron's announcement is a sign that these efforts are paying off.
The Gujarat plant is expected to have a significant economic impact on the region. The direct and indirect jobs created by the plant will boost the local economy, and the plant is also expected to attract other semiconductor companies to the region.
The announcement of Micron's investment is a major win for India. The plant will create jobs, boost the economy, and help India to become a global leader in the semiconductor industry.
