Netflix is Going to Stop Sending DVDs
Back when there was no streaming, people used to get movies in the mail from Netflix. It was really exciting to receive a DVD in the mail.
But now, Netflix is going to stop sending DVDs. However, they said that if you still have any DVDs from them after September 29, you get to keep them. And if you're a subscriber, you might even be able to get up to 10 more DVDs for free before they stop sending them. They're just trying to get rid of all their DVDs.
Netflix now rents DVDs through a different company called DVD.com. They made an announcement about some DVDs that were overdue on Monday. The Verge told us about it.
In 1997, Netflix started as a service where people could pay to rent movies one at a time. But in 1999, they changed to a system where customers could make a list of movies they wanted to watch and they would be sent to them in order. This made other stores that rented movies go out of business. But now, most people watch movies online instead of renting DVDs. So, Netflix decided to stop renting DVDs in April of this year.
DVD.com is a place where you can rent movies to watch at home. But soon, they will stop sending out movies on discs. The last day they will send out movies is September 29, 2023. After that, if you have any movies at home that you haven't returned, you won't have to pay for them. You can keep watching them for as long as you want! If you want to, you can still return the movies, but you have to do it by October 27, 2023.
Netflix is giving people a special opportunity to get extra DVDs sent to them for free before they stop offering DVDs. They have a lot of DVDs, so they need to find a place for them all to go.
If you don't have a subscription to Netflix and want to borrow DVDs from them, you need to sign up for a DVD plan before August 28th. After that, Netflix will stop offering DVDs in September.
