Ericsson's report, "5G value: Turning performance into loyalty," reveals that around 31 million Indian users are expected to upgrade to 5G phones by 2023, based on their tech attitudes and affordability. The report also highlights the high engagement of Indian 5G users with mobile applications like HD video streaming, video calling, mobile gaming, and augmented reality, spending an average of two additional hours per week on these services compared to users in other early adopter markets like the US, UK, South Korea, and China.
India's 5G satisfaction levels and perceived availability are higher than those in early adopter markets, with a 13% higher share of very satisfied 5G users compared to the early adopter market average. Overall satisfaction increases by 30% when transitioning from 4G to 5G, with higher download speeds playing a crucial role in driving this satisfaction. The survey highlights the importance of 5G performance in significant locations, as it greatly affects user satisfaction and decisions related to changing service providers. Users who face connectivity issues in event venues are three times more likely to consider switching providers in the next six months. On the other hand, a positive 5G experience at essential locations like home or during transit can increase satisfaction by four times.
The survey was conducted with 50 million 5G users and 250 million consumers across cities in tiers 1-3. The study interviewed 10,000 active 5G users globally, encompassing 650 million 5G users worldwide. Indian consumers are willing to pay more for certain 5G use cases, such as 3D/AR Books Digital Library, 5G Creator Package, 5G Optimised Mobile Gaming, Immersive Replays, and Enhanced Event Experience. Ericsson Consumer Lab Head Jasmeet Singh Sethi found that 39% of 5G users surveyed believed increased data allowances justified higher 5G plan costs.
A global survey revealed that app experience plays a crucial role in driving satisfaction with 5G, with 5G significantly improving overall network satisfaction in India by 30% compared to 4G.
