7 more arrests by SIT in investigation of cryptocurrency fraud
In a cryptocurrency fraud case, the Himachal Pradesh Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested seven more individuals.
The accused were operating major roles within the cryptocurrency operation. They were allegedly involved in a cryptocurrency-related pyramid scheme fraud. The accused have been sent into custody for a 10-day period.

According to DGP Sanjay Kundu, one of them was responsible for overseeing back-end office activities, which included maintaining databases, coordinating communications, and managing the technical aspects of the fraudulent schemes. Another individual was in charge of handling financial transactions related to the scheme, overseeing the inflow and outflow of funds. The investigation is currently in progress, with a primary focus on accumulating evidence and tracing the money trail to ensure that all involved parties face justice.
On September 26, the SIT, led by Abhishek Dullar, DIG (Northern Range Dharamshala), consisting of 13 members, was established to probe cases related to the cryptocurrency scam. The SIT's mandate includes investigating the larger conspiracy related to cryptocurrency in the state and conducting a thorough and unbiased financial probe into cryptocurrency-related cases.
The SIT issued a public appeal, Advising individuals to be careful when taking steps to investment opportunities, especially in cryptocurrency. police have asked for help by anyone who related to the case to assist in the ongoing investigation.
On October 7, in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Chandigarh the SIT conducted operation at 35 locations in seven districts. These searches resulted in significant evidence, including incriminating documents, property records, mobile phones, and other digital devices. Additionally, the police seized vehicles and gathered various details related to the proceeds of the crime. Prior to this operation, the SIT had apprehended two key accused, Hemraj and Sukhdev, from Mandi district in Gujarat.
The cryptocurrency scam first came to public attention during the monsoon session of the state assembly when Independent MLA Hoshyar Singh from Dehra raised concerns, citing scams worth Rs 200 crore in Hamirpur, Rs 100 crore in Una, and between Rs 200 to Rs 250 crore in Kangra district.
In response, the formation of the SIT by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri announced to investigation of the matter during the assembly session.
