DMRC Plans to Expand 'Virtual Stores' and 'Digi-Lockers' Facilities by 2024
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is taking commuter convenience to the next level by introducing digital lockers and virtual stores at select metro stations.
Highlights:
- Digital Lockers via 'Momentum 2.0' App: Delhi Metro commuters can now rent digital lockers at 50 stations using the 'Momentum 2.0' mobile app launched on Wednesday.
- Virtual Stores and Smart Lockers: The app enables online purchasing from virtual stores at 20 metro stations, courier services via smart lockers, and the purchase of QR code-based tickets.
- Expansion Plans: DMRC intends to expand these facilities to most of its stations by June 2024.
The Delhi Metro, with a network spanning 393 kilometers and 288 stations, is now offering a unique and comprehensive mobile app experience to its commuters. 'Momentum 2.0' was formally launched at the Shivaji Stadium metro station by DMRC's Managing Director, Vikas Kumar.
Through this app, available on both Android and iOS, commuters can rent 'smart boxes' (digi-lockers) at 50 stations across Lines 1-7 and the Airport Line. These stations include Rajiv Chowk, Millennium City Centre Gurugram, Dwarka Sector 10, Supreme Court, and more. Users can rent lockers for a duration of one to six hours, with charges varying based on locker size.
The 'smart boxes' are part of a grid format, and each station has sets of 83-90 digital lockers with a central console. The process involves selecting the locker size, duration, and time slots, followed by payment, which generates a PIN number for access.
Virtual stores are accessible through QR codes, allowing users to make purchases and have them delivered to a specified metro station for pickup from a digi-locker. The app also offers courier services, eliminating the need for traditional post offices or courier agencies.
Additionally, the app streamlines the ticketing process with QR code-based tickets for all metro lines, including the Airport Line. It also provides access to Delhi Metro smart card management, allowing users to check balances and set up 'auto top-up' for card balances.
Beyond transportation, the app offers utility bill payments, station-related information, and details on facilities, shops, outlets, kiosks, and ATMs at metro stations. It enhances user experience by offering information on the first and last train timings, food outlets, ATMs, and even the option to arrange transportation based on the train's arrival time.
